Introduction

I started watching football when I was about five years old. Of course when I say watching I mean just sitting there with my mouth open, drooling with no real cognitive understanding of what I was looking at (there’s not a whole lot else you can do when you’re five). Despite this, I immediately fell in love with the New England Patriots because that’s who my dad likes. With us being in the AFC East, we played the Miami Dolphins twice a year as they were in the same division. Through my drooling stooper, one name constantly was brought to my attention. Chris Chambers. Looking back at some of his games against us, he didn’t really do much to be honest. It’s not like he was torching us for 150 yards every game. I think in my five year old subconscious I knew that he was going to be forgotten one day and I was the only person that could give him respect after his playing days were over. That or the name “Chambers” just stuck with me because I heard that word constantly when I was watching Spider-Man comics on tv (I was probably drooling during that activity too).

Why He Should Be Remembered

In 10 seasons that Chambers played, he was a Pro Bowler just once in the 2005 season. That was also the same year he eclipsed a 1,000 receiving yards. While Chambers was consistently a top option for the Miami Dolphins, he was traded after six seasons with them to the then San Diego Chargers. After a few failed seasons there, he was released by the Chargers and was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2010. Arguably his biggest claim to fame was when he helped the Chiefs beat the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chambers had a 62 yard catch and run that helped set up the game-winning field goal in overtime which was part of a 119 receiving yard game. Look this guy wasn’t anything special, alright? He suffered some injuries sure, but it wasn’t like he was on pace to be this generational receiver and unlucky injuries held him back. He was a solid, middle of the pack wide receiver. With all that being said though, he was relevant enough at the time to get his own commercial.

What?

Ohhhh yeah. Not just any commercial either. An NFL Fantasy Football commercial back when they were actually good. Back when they were actually creative and about the players. Check it out:

Some of those kinds of commercials back then were fairly obvious to be fake. This one however honestly looks legit. I mean that’s not impossible what Chambers did. Oh stop, no you can’t do that, stop thinking you can.

Side note: I would love to see these kinds of commercials come back for fantasy. Make it about the players, not some dumb initiative to try and get people to gamble. That’s so lame.

Why He Is Not Remembered

Yes I know that commercial is awesome, but even despite that Chris Chambers is not a name I hear often. It’s not like those early 2000 Dolphins teams were anything special, so he’s part of lost team history. One 1K yard season probably isn’t going to put you in many NFL discussions. He was unfortunately a JAG in Steve Smith’s words (just a guy).

Where He Is Now

The latest stuff I can find of Chambers is that he’s a wide receiver coach at Keiser University. Sorry, some of these dudes are hard to find. I did however find out that he majored in sociology and law at Wisconsin, which I immediately realized he could have became a judge and said “step into my Chambers” anytime he wanted. He could have gotten laid so much if he just walked up to a girl and said that. What a missed opportunity on his part, really.
